PastaFest Success; Plans for 2007 Underway

GBTU's 2006 PastaFest was a success, raising over $5,000. As in the past, most of the money was donated to conservation projects. The Chapter donated $2,000 to an Orvis fund dedicated to the restoration of the Battenkill River in Vermont . Orvis provided a 2-for-1 match of the money, leading to a total donation of $6,000 from the initial funds provided by GBTU. Over the years, the Battenkill has seen a decline in the numbers of large, wild brown trout that it is known for. Biologists determined that there was a decline in the number of big fish because of habitat loss. A key aspect of the work done with the money raised by GBTU was to install woody debris back into the river.

Another $1,500 was given to Casting for Recovery, the national program that provides support to women recovering from Breast Cancer. The Chapter gave $250 to the annual restoration efforts at Red Brook, a sea run brook trout stream in Wareham . Red Brook is now open to the public for fishing. It can be a tough nut to crack initially. But wild sea run brook trout up to 16 inches have been consistently taken in the last few years.

The 2007 PastaFest will again be held at the Hibernian Hall in Watertown on April 1, 2007 . Mark your calendars. We'll supply more details about the dinner on the PastaFest page.
