GBTU.org: How long have you been a member of TU?
Frank LaGambina: I’ve been a member for many years.
I was a member back when they used to meet at the
Wayland Rod and Gun Club.
GBTU.org: What do you do for GBTU?
FL: I have a knack for working the tables at the Wilmington World Fly Fishing Expo and the Marlboro Fly Fishing Show.
I’ve also been collecting the money at the door for the
monthly meetings and the PastaFests for many years.
GBTU.org: What’s your favorite place to fish?
FL: I like to fish all places. What I like about this sport is the variety. It’s not just the fish. It’s where you go, the beautiful country where trout and salmon live.
GBTU.org: What are some other places you’ve enjoyed fishing?
FL: When I was in the Navy, I fished in the Caribbean. I caught all types of sharks. I also fished for landlocked salmon and trout in Maine on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. Also, I’ve been fishing the northern part of the White Mountains for many years.
GBTU.org: How long have you been fly fishing?
FL: I’ve been fly fishing for about 50 years.
GBTU.org: What’s your favorite fish to catch?
FL: My favorite fish to catch is the Atlantic salmon in the Margaree River in Cape Breton.
GBTU.org: What’s your favorite drink to have while fishing?
FL: Any type of scotch.
GBTU.org: What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not fishing?
FL: I love listening to classical music (I have about 2.5 thousand CDs) and reading about world history (I have about 2,000 volumes). I’ve contaminated many of my TU buddies with classical music. When we’re getting ready to go on a trip, they always say “Make sure you bring your tapes with you.” Most of the guys I’ve met at TU are good, decent guys.
Frank has been retired for 16 years. He lives in Medford with his wife Mary. They have six kids, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
